Our Story

It all started with Ginger and Bud Shinn. Over the years Ginger and her husband Bud traveled from Miami to Maggie Valley with their four children and later decided to make Smokey Shadows Lodge their permanent home. Now, the Shinn Family continues to dedicate their lives to sharing this treasured getaway with all who visit!

The spark of Ginger’s dream to own Smokey Shadows Lodge began when Ginger Shinn was a young girl visiting the Great Smokey Mountains with her family from Miami, Florida. Ginger had fond memories of hiking, horseback riding, and enjoying meals at the lodge as a child. Years later, Ginger was living in Miami with her husband, Bud, and four children. She saw an ad in the newspaper saying that Smokey Shadows Lodge was up for sale, and she knew that this was her opportunity to make their Mountain dream a reality 1983 began their journey……. Ginger had a warm way with people, a creative knack for decorating and cooking, and Bud with his background in building, it didn’t take long until Smokey Shadows came to life again Ginger was the center, The Heart!

Ginger, Bud, and their four children ran the lodge, finding deep joy and fulfillment in the relationships she created with her loyal guests. Ginger passed away in twenty-twenty leaving the beautiful lodge in her family’s hands. Tracy now runs the lodge with help from her father, Bud, and the rest of the Family.  Ginger created the most beautiful environment at Smokey Shadows where guests become close friends and sometimes, even like family. Today her legacy lives on through her husband, children, and grandchildren who all play a part in the life of Smokey Shadows. Her dream has become a legacy for her family to carry on

We want to share the beauty of the Smokey Shadows Lodge with as many people as we can!
